End of the Old Spice Sponsorship

As many of you have already noticed, our sponsorship with Old Spice and the Experience Challenge ended on July 1, 2008. It was a pretty exciting ride... tons of work... tons of fun... tons of challenges...

Old Spice (Proctor & Gamble) was a great sponsor to have. They let us run with our creative vision of what things should be... we had lots of freedom to build a gamerscore challenge system that we would all enjoy using.... and many of you did enjoy it!

Why didn't they renew? In the end, they liked the program and liked working with us, but wanted to stick with some more traditional channels... we can't blame them... the economy is shaky... the fact that they went with a crazy-small community website to begin with always amazed us! It took some real forward thinking, and we are glad those people were involved.

In the end, missing the renewal isn't a bad thing... Steve and I are getting pulled in dozens of directions, and while it is sad to see that section of the site turn from Red to Green... we will always have fond memories for Old Spice and what they did for this site.

Thank you for the sponsor for supporting this site.

Thank you Old Spice for the prizes! I threw away my old deodorant and bought yours.

Old spice has always made me smell sexy. They will always have a place in my toiletry collection. Thank you Old Spice.

By the way, the "after hours" scent is the way to go. Mix it with the smooth arousing sound of Barry White and any girl with ears and a nose is yours.

Yes I admit I am now an old spice user as well. It was great to have them as part of the site, and a it's great to have a sponsor you enjoy and to help build a great feature.

Old Spice was a great sponsor and their involvement really increased my feelings twoards them as a company. I hope that they will consider coming back to sponsoring challenges again.

Even though I have only been here for a short while I enjoyed a couple of Old Spice challenges. Thanks for sponsoring and supporting the site, shame the red and green is no more!

So did challenges get turned off or something? Because my challenge still hasn't updated today.

Thank you Old Spice for your gracious Sponsorship of a Community that I enjoy so much! You have really reached out to Gamers and I, for one, can say that I now always reach for your products when they are an option. :)

Sorry to see them go. Hopefully another sponsor will step up and take their place. BTW, the challenge pages still have the title "Old Spice Experience Challenge - Powered by 360voice".

Assuming someone at Old Spice is going to read these comments I will write directed towards them.

I'm 35 year old male and my impression of Old Spice prior to say two years ago was that it was for old men and some crappy aftershave. Recently however, doing things like the sponsorship here and on the 360 (not that I'd ever use an Old Spice gamerpic but some people did!) have really changed my perception of the company. This extends to tv ads as well. I really enjoy the jokes about manliness or how hairy someone is, even that Will Ferrell Semi-Pro one was funny.

So now when I see Old Spice I don't think of someone's grandfather, I think of a company that is reinventing itself and looking for my dollars. Now personally, I honestly haven't purchased any yet, but I can tell you that I do actually consider it when I'm at the store. And I would definitely buy your products over Axe or any of those new made up "hip" brands that just uses women to grab your attention. To me those types of ads are comical and I would never take anything that thinks I'm stupid enough to think if I wear it women will suddenly find me irresistible.

The point I'm trying to make is clearly you are trying to change the brand's image and I believe that I am the target audience. I know it's hard to quantify and you probably aren't seeing any measurable increase in sales from doing things like sponsoring the competitions here but what you are doing is making me consider your products when I'm standing in an isle full of the same thing trying to get my attention.

It's working, stick with it.

Thanks Old Spice!

I love the challenges, but losing the Old Spice sponsorship I don't think is a big deal since prizes have been turned off for a few months. Winning real items, however, was awesome!

By the way, the title for the challenge pages still says "Old Spice Challenges."

Reminded by Kaens...

I used to use Right Guard almost exclusively but in the last couple of months have switched to Old Spice. Honestly, I think it was because of these challenges. At least that made me more aware of the product as a brand of deodorant for younger men.

It would be nice if Old Spice had an antiperspirant, however.

Agree with Kaen. Old Spice was always an 'old man' company in my eyes. I now see them coming to the younger audience, and meeting us in a way we can relate. Good marketing scheme! ;)

Seriously though, I know the sponsorship did a lot for this site, and I hope everyone benefited from it. Will be sad to see the red change to green, but we'll all know where it started! ;)

Thanks for the great year Old Spice, and just like everyone else; Old Spice is all I use, it happens to be high endurance. I have tried others in the past and for me this is the only deodorant I can use.

Thanks for the 8000 MP!

Just wanted to say thanks for everything you guys put into this it was fun and felt more fair than the Microsoft/Old Spice one...So from a player standpoint....great job guys!

I can't say enough good things about Old Spice... I have been using their products since I was 13-14 and never stopped. I use the whole range of products and am very happy with them. I want to thank them for allowing 360Voice to host their challenges.

I was a part of the original Old Spice Xbox Challenges that was hosted by Microsoft at www.xbox.com/rewards and I joined this site to follow them, that's why I am here today.

THANKS GUYS!!!!!!

Shame to see the prize-challenges going, but it's understandable. Good to see a company like Old Spice making smart sponsorship decisions like this - it's changed my opinion of their target audience too.

Would be nice to see more prize-challenges return in the future with a different sponsor.

I wear my Old Spice T-Shirt proudly these days!! Way to make stinky gamers smell good again Old Spice! WOO!

Hey I use the product now.

thanks Old Spice

Thanks old spice!

And by the way, in the bragging rights section of our profiles it still says "Old Spice Experience Challenge"
