Question: Does anyone use the Directory?

Here is a question for the community:

"Do you use the Directory?"

I am talking about the user directory that is up on the nav bar... the issue is that it is an HTML scraper's dream... those pages just get pounded day in and day out and I have to imagine people aren't really bringing up all the "S" tags just to find their friends... so my thought was to maybe turn that section off (remove it) if it isn't really being used. With the search box you can find any friends you have. I never personally use it... so I was just wondering... we built it because we had the tag search.

I am interested in feedback.

nope... never have.

i wouldn't lose sleep over it if it was to be taken away.

Nope I don't use it and I wouldn't miss it.

Not really, never clicked it, I only use "Home" "Badges" "Challenges" and "Forums" anyway, so :)

I never used em! - I dont use em on other sites either.... seems kinda pointless to me infact ;)

Personally I don't notice what's gone or that anything's changed.

Take that as a "I don't use it". ;)

I used it the other day. It's nice when you don't know the amount of spaces or exact spelling in a GT.

The search is nice but if you want a GT that starts with "live" then you can use the member directory sorting by "L". If you use the "live" in the search box it will return all the hits.

It would be nice to enhance the search. Instead of it doing a ** on everything you search for (if you type live it does a *live*). Maybe give the user that option? So if I typed "live*" it would do what I wanted and not a "*live*".

Another good thing with the member directory is if you don't know the exact spelling, for example llve (the user is using a l and not an i). So in this case, if you added that feature to the search, you could do a "l*" and return all the members that have the L at the start, rather then right now, typing a "l" will return ALL the gamertags that contain a "l".

Does this make sense?

As long as the search box stays ill be happy

I can't recall ever using it. Like you said in your blog post, I just type in the gamertag of the person I'm looking for.

no I dont use it

I like fafhrdd's search box improvement ideas. I've personally only used the directory once or twice, but just out of curiousity, rather than need.

I do use the 'Forum Members' list though. It's good for seeing how many people come from different countries, etc.

Personally I don't use it.

improve the search box which can be a bit...bitchy

I might have used it once or twice when I first started, but it was more of a curiousity thing so nowadays I don't even think of it being there.

Nope. I've never used it and probably never will. Get rid of it.

There's a directory button on the nav bar?

I very seldom use it so no I wouldn't miss it.

I've used it a few times, but I wouldn't miss it much if it was to "disappear" one day... ;)

I never use the Directory function. The 'Member of the Moment' (MOTB) is immediately available in the left nav bar. It's pointless. I would think the space could be put to better use with one or more of the links at the bottom of the page. How about an 'About Us' link at the top of the page. Let new users know what it is they are looking at. Just my opinion though as a marketing manager.

In shortest words possible...

No

Never use it. If it helps the site to remove it, fine by me.

Nope, but thanks for asking.

I don't use it. I didn't notice it up there, lol. Won't hurt me if you got rid of it.

well i have used it from time to time when i cannot remember how exactly to spell a gamer tag but rarely.

i dunno is this a good thing for the new members who want to learn who is who of our fantastic web site here???

just curious and chucking my 2 cents in ??

There's a directory???
