People are playing GTA IV

The title of this blog post might be the understatement of the year.  If you look at our overall game stats you can see GTA IV is easily the most popular game yesterday and about 30% of our members played it on day 1.  It was also the second biggest day for a game ever, beaten only by Halo 3 launch which had about 5600 more players, or about 45% at the time.

All other games were significantly down as a result, Call of Duty lost about 40% of it's gamers for the day, pushing it's daily players closer to Halo 3 which saw a similar 37% drop in players.  It will be interesting to see if they gain players tomorrow, or they stay at similar levels as more people get GTA.

Folks should keep an eye on the games pages to see if multiplayer will help extend the life of the game, or if we will see the newness wear off and Call of Duty pop back up to the #1 spot.  You can also track the GTA IV page, and watch the % of members who have played the game go up. But also check out the gamerscore distribution of the title over time to see how quickly people are earning achievements, or if they just end up driving around and running people over.

Update: Even more of you jumped on the second day of GTA, total players went up 580.  So in a surprise the biggest day wasn't even launch day.  Also another 4% of our users tried the game for the first time yesterday, will be interesting to see where both numbers peak.

GamerDNA Acquires 360voice.com
Expands management team and adds Xbox to growing videogaming platform

CAMBRIDGE, MA, April 28, 2008 – GamerDNA Inc. announced that it completed the acquisition of It Can Talk Inc., owner of the popular Xbox community website 360voice.com.

The Xbox 360 is a popular videogame console with an installed base of over 18 million units, and the 360voice.com website is a community that serves this audience. 360voice.com had the unique advantage of being an early member of the Microsoft XCDP (Xbox Community Developers Program), which enabled it to create software that "autoblogs" about an Xbox owner's gameplay, and allows players to challenge each other in competitions for real prizes.

"We're building out a platform for the videogame market, unified by the idea of a consistent gamer identity that you can carry with you across an open network of gaming communities," said Jon Radoff, CEO of GamerDNA.

The founders of It Can Talk Inc. will relocate to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where they'll continue as part of the GamerDNA team.  Trapper Markelz, CEO of It Can Talk, will become the VP of Products for GamerDNA.

"With GamerDNA, we're creating the platform for a gamer's identity," said Trapper Markelz.  "Using technology we created at 360voice.com, we'll be feeding your achievements and experiences into a gaming history you can express throughout the Web."

It Can Talk is the second acquisition made by GamerDNA.  In November 2006, the company acquired Uberguilds, a network of popular MMORPG community websites.

"Video-gaming communities need new ways of exciting gamers—things that actually enhance the entertainment value of games," explained Michael Dowling, CEO of Interpret LLC, a California media and market research firm.  "360voice has crafted a unique set of experiences for Xbox owners.  Bringing similar experiences to other gamers will extend the reach of GamerDNA to millions of potential customers."

About GamerDNA Inc.
GamerDNA is building a community for the millions of people around the world who are passionate about the immersive, engaging experiences that can be found through games. Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, GamerDNA is funded by Flybridge Capital Partners and led by a team of online media and computer games veterans from Eprise, New York Times Digital and Electronic Arts Mythic. I can't take it anymore...

A while back we proclaimed that we wouldn't be fixing anymore streaks... we did this because... well... most people have no problem keeping their streaks... but for some reason a segment of the population does... some people we fixed their streak two or three times... We thought putting a stake in the ground against streak resets would be less support, but it turned into more work as we had to crush the dreams of people and then explain over multiple emails that their dreams were remaining crushed...

So Ok, Ok, Ok, Ok... we will fix your streaks... jeez... the sob stories we are getting lately are enough to make you cry... So if you play... and you lose your streak unfairly... submit a support request and we will check it out... please don't abuse this... pretty please?

And if you lost a streak recently... we will investigate and repair that too... send requests (as always) to support@360voice.com.

And for the record, PSonic, MysticWeirdo, the dren, Croaker111, TotalSOLO, D0cman88, VVV WHUMEISTER, peters8570, PMW1718, Lord Kayne, Frostbite, AcidicWolverine, MANNYFR35H, David Creech, salazaar99, sh0cktrooper, dynyr, Spidey987, jcnet, tbon5 and everyone else on the streak leaderboard OWNS you all because they never seem to need streaks reset! :)

There are two contests going on at 360voice right now! Here are the updates:

Tallahassee, Florida – April 24, 2008 – Just when people thought that Unlock The Achievement was only a scavenger hunt – a new aspect of the event is added to further benefit the St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital! With the support of the gaming community, UTA plans to match any donation up to a total of $1000.00.

Unlock The Achievement has already attracted over 14,000 unique visitors in just 3 days! Users have spent over 4,200 hours participating in the scavenger hunt, unlocking 51,000 achievements.

Players – the name referring to visitors involved in the Scavenger Hunt, which will give the illusion that they are playing a game of some sort – will start by visiting their favorite Xbox 360 themed website. From there, they’ll be asked to look for clues on how to find hidden “Achievements,” located on each of website involved. Each website will be given 5 of these achievements, ranging in difficulty from Paris Hilton Easy to Expert Guitar Hero III Hard. As players “unlock” more of these Achievements, their progress will be tracked on leaderboards featuring Real-Time Position Changes™, in turn becoming eligible to win prizes.

Among the participating websites and magazines, Official Xbox Magazine (OXM), Xbox360Fanboy.com and Evil Avatar headline the amazing list of websites that will be featured in the contest.

The hunt began on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 12PM EST. At the same time, a charity package arrived in Tennessee to support the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. With the help of Gaming4Others, and the participating sites and sponsors, a donation of 100+ games were wrapped up and to be given away to children during a party at the hospital.

Unlock The Achievement has partnered with a number of corporate sponsors, including Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Activision, Popcap, Sierra Online, Capcom, Freeverse, Chair Entertainment, TOR Books, and Hollywood Collectibles. There are over 100 prize packages waiting to be given away, as well as a grand prize that includes an Xbox 360 120GB HDD, Project Gotham Racing 4, Soldier Of Fortune: Payback, Devil May Cry 4, Call of Duty schwag, a Live is 5ive limited edition T Shirt, the complete Halo soundtrack, Uno, and 200 Microsoft Points.

“This event gives many Xbox 360 websites and blogs a wonderful chance to hold a contest for its visitors that otherwise might not have the opportunity to give things away,” said Ziff Davis Media’s Chris Pereira, better known by his alias ‘TheSmokingManX.’

For more information, please contact the contest manager, Devin Kofsky, by email at DKofsky@UnlockTheAchievement.com

With all this stuff going on, you all better not say you are bored! :)

Auto-Challenges are Back! With a twist!

We are bringing back the very popular Auto-Challenge this week, but with a new twist! Auto-Challenges will now be 5 days long, and run every week from 12:01AM (PST) Wednesday to 11:59PM (PST) Sunday.  Meaning that while activated, you will automatically be placed in a scheduled challenge each week.

Starting tomorrow (April 22nd) new Auto-Challenges will be populated every Tuesday.   So this means if you have gone into your profile and enabled Auto-Challenges, under your Auto-Challenge settings, you will automatically be put into a 5 day challenge, starting the following day at midnight.

Each week, you will be matched up in a 5 person challenge, based on your current gamerscore.  Your challenge will then start at 12:01AM PST on Wednesday.  All challenges are for bragging rights and help you move up the leaderboard and earn badges.  If you are currently in an active or pending challenge, you will not be entered into an Auto-challenge.

Finally this does require a full account, so if you haven't signed up yet, please do so and get competing!

*Blip* Achievement Unlocked!

Do you have your eyes peeled?  How many have you unlocked?

Just to help out you loyal 360voice members we have a few hints to get you started on getting our 5 hidden achievements.

If you think Tips, Hints, etc ruin the fun of the game STOP....READING....NOW - you have been warned - let the semi-spoilage begin!  Here are some questions you might be asking, and might lead you to the pot of gold you so desire:

  1. Who the hell are we (360voice.com)?
  2. Where it stops nobody knows...
  3. And the master of achievements is...
  4. Does this work on my phone?
  5. 4 friends plus beer plus....

Good Luck everyone!

Xbox Live Outage April 21st. Streaks will be saved!

There is a scheduled Xbox Live outage on Monday at 2am Pacific Time. The outage is planned to last for 8 hours. Major Nelson has a little post about it:

On Monday April 21st from 0200-1000 PT Xbox Live will be offline for maintenance. As a result, the ‘My Xbox’ section of Xbox.com will be unavailable, and the Xbox forums will be in read only mode (you won’t be able to post.) The remainder of Xbox.com will be available.

Regardless of the fact that we are protecting streaks... I would suggest everyone attempt to play after Xbox Live comes back! That is always best for your Xbox... regardless of an outage they get sad if they don't remember!

To clarify, this means that if your April 22nd blog says that you didn't play, don't believe it... it will tell you as much in case you forget.

Fatty Chubs spotted at the MVP Summit

Our own Steve (Fatty Chubs) has been spotted in the flickr feeds at the MVP Summit in Seattle this week. Check out his impressions of Ninja Gaiden 2... if you have any questions about what he is doing or seeing, head over to the forum and post a comment.

Meanwhile, Squidpunch and myself are sitting here being jealous of his Redmond adventures... OK we aren't that jealous... it is more that feeling when everyone is eating ice cream and you finish before your friend and then you think, "Man you are lucky because you have more ice cream... I wish I had more ice cream."

That is exactly how it is.

Submissions are over, vote now or never!

Submissions to the Xbox 360 Content Content Creation Challenge presented by Nokia is now closed! Now all you can do is vote, VOTE, VOTE! Get in there and make the community proud! We also have a little surprise announcement... some prizes to the lucky people who put forth the effort to get involved!

Nokia has provided us with a few little gifts to distribute. Here is how it is going to go down.

  1. At the end of the contest (April 28th, 2008), which ever 360voice theme is the highest, will win a Nokia N81 8GB Phone! So if you have a theme up there for 360voice, mobilize your friends and family to put you on top! You have to supply your own mobile plan... we are just giving away the hardware.
  2. Out of everyone else who has submitted themes, we will do ten (10) random drawings for 400 Microsoft Points.

Good times eh? So head over... check out the 360voice themes... vote for your favorite...

Member of the moment: Bill Mcdougal

(posted on behalf of Mr Achievement and Syndelin)

So the recount is finished and the Supreme Court has ruled that Bill Mcdougal is the newest Member of the Moment! Bill has a cat named Halo... yes, Halo... wanna hear the best part? His Mother named the cat! Fanboyism must be a genetic trait... one that I hope my children obtain. So without any further delay, I'll get to the interview...

Q: So here goes... How long have you been gaming?

A: I was born in 85 and I believe that I received my Nintendo Entertainment System at four years old, so I've guess I've been gaming for 19 years now. It was a Christmas present, and I have an old VHS around here somewhere of myself jumping around, excitedly exclaiming "intendo!" over and over.

Q: Santa... a Gamers Best Friend! What was the first game that you played and what drew you into gaming in general?

A: Well, like most everyone who started on the NES, my first game was Super Mario Bros (and Duck Hunt, of course). I was young, so I'm sure I was drawn in to gaming simply because I was amazed at being able to control what happened on the TV with a little controller. I know I wasn't drawn in because of skill, though, because I don't remember ever getting very far at all in that game! It was also my first adventure in multiplayer gaming, though of course this was back when that meant taking turns playing a single-player game. My childhood friend and I would constantly fight over who got to be Mario and who had to be Luigi!

Q: Luigi never ran as fast, Mario was always better! What brought you to 360voice, and what do you think is the best feature of the site?

A: I started off by making a blog because I thought it was really neat to be able to have my gaming recorded without having to actually write it myself. I would check in often to see what interesting or funny things my Xbox had to say about me and my gaming. It wasn't until I heard about the Old Spice Experience Challenge that I really became active. I thought it was incredibly cool that I could win actual prizes for playing games. I mean, how can it get any better than that? Now that the challenges for prizes are over, I still join challenges just for fun.

Overall, I'd have to say that the challenge system is the best feature of the site. Everything just works great, it's innovative, and it's a lot of fun. However, my favorite part of the site overall would have to be the forums. I can't really say it's the best "feature," considering most gaming sites have forums, but it's definitely the reason I keep coming back. This is because, out of all of the gaming forums I've ever visited, 360 Voice is the first to really make me want to post frequently and get involved. I have to say it's because the forums here have the best gaming community I've ever seen. There are so many regulars here that are just incredibly helpful, nice, and simply awesome to chat with. I don't feel like I'm one poster in a sea of random gamers all looking out for themselves, but part of an amazing community, so I feel a constant need to check in on the forums many times a day!

Q: 10 Posts per day says you are definitely busy! So your current streak is 157 days, wow! How long do you think you can make it last?

A: Yeah, it amazes me to think about it! I actually haven't really had to TRY to make it last, as I play games every day, even if its just long enough to play a song or two on Rock Band during a busy day. I guess it will probably last until I finally go on another vacation!

Q: No Wireless Adapter for the Hotel Connection... and you call yourself a streaker! Is there anything that you would like to see on 3v that isn't already here?

A: Honestly, the only thing I can think of would be to see some part of the late LiveEye service integrated  with this site. I know it was closed because of technical limitations, though, so I doubt we'll see it happen. It was just so cool to be able to look at how many hours I've played in a particular game. It really made me feel like a purchase was worth it when I could go prove that I've spent SO many hours in it! Other than that, I'd just like to see this site continue with the successes it deserves.

Q: Good choice... maybe impossible, but good choice! Who would win in a fight, Fatty Chubs, ChangeAgent or Squidpunch?

A: Hahaha, what a strange question! I don't know, it seems like they all do a ridiculous amount of work to keep this site running strong and always improving, and I respect them so much for being active in the community, that I'd hate to see them fight! Don't do it, guys!

Q: You can thank andyg8180 for that one... When did you sign up for live?

A: Immediately! I knew that being able to play Xbox games online would be huge and I couldn't wait! My previous experience with online play was just so amazing, between PC games like Unreal Tournament and Worms 2 and my first console-based online play with Chu Chu Rocket on the Sega Dreamcast. I picked up the service when it came out and started with the bundled MotoGP racing game. Playing against other people online was just tons of fun, though I'm glad the 360 has abandoned the voice-masking feature of those days! Of course I was a big fan of Halo 2 when that came out, but then I moved on and I at least try the LIVE multiplayer portion of every game I play.

Q: I saw your "Founding Member" Gamerpic... Jealous? I am. What is your game setup?

A: A 50" Samsung Plasma is the center of my gaming setup! My girlfriend and I basically went in to debt for the thing, but it was totally worth it! We woke up early in the morning to buy it on Black Friday, 2006. And then on Black Friday of last year, we went back to pick up a surround sound system to go with it. We love it, and it really does make these new-gen games much more immersive and incredible.

Q: Black Friday... Santa's Best Friend! What other systems, if any, do you own?

A: The Xbox 360 is really all I need! I kept my Xbox until recently, but I had only played one game for it since the 360 came out, so I decided to go out and sell it. Also, my girlfriend owned a PS2 and brought that with her in the move, but we don't even have it hooked up. The 360 really has everything I could want in a console.

Q: Fanboy, FTW!!! What's your favorite feature on Xbox LIVE?

A: I guess I'd have to go with the service-wide friends list. Trying to meet up with your friends in PC games was just so much of a hassle. It's really helpful to be able to have one list of friends that goes across all games. If I'm off playing one game and a buddy is playing something else, the fact that we can still send messages back and forth or go off to play something together is a spectacular feature! And if I'm not sure what to play, it's great to be able to pull up my friends list and see what all of my friends are playing.

Q: You were the creator of the "Friends of 360v" project... Was there anything unexpected that has occurred since its creation?

A: Yes, I saw that the Friends-of-Friends feature that let you view the friends lists of your buddies could be used to make social groups, so I thought it would be perfect for this community. I made a gamertag called "Friends of 360v" that the forum regulars could join, so that they could select this tag on their friends list and have access to all of the other participants, to see what they're playing and send them messages and game invites. It really was everything I thought it would be, and I got to play some games with some of you guys, but the idea kind of hit a snag when the gamertag filled up to 100 members. I added a second gamertag named "FriendsOf360v2" to the original list, so that people could join that one and be able to select the original list through it's friends list, but I discovered that the feature only went 1-friend-deep. I have the tags' options set so that "everyone" can see their friends list, but for some reason, you can't view it through another friend's list of friends. It worked great up until that snag, though, and hopefully Microsoft will fix the issue.

Q: A Friends of 360v Petition should be made immediately! Do you own or rent games for the most part?

A: I rent most of the games I play. I play a lot, so Gamefly seemed to be the best option for my wallet...

Q: Gamefly Members have no reason to buy anyways! What games were lucky enough to have made it into you permanent collection (why?)?

A: I only actually purchase a game when I know it's something I'll be picking up for months and months to come, so I only own a few games. I purchased Viva Pinata (well that one was more like my girlfriend's purchase), EDF 2017 (used from Gamefly for very cheap), Halo 3 (that's a given, right?), Guitar Hero 2, as the music genre was the biggest thing I felt the original Xbox lacked, and I was jealous of PS2 for their support from Harmonix all those years, and my definite favorite, Rock Band. I still play it almost every day. I don't see it ever getting old, especially with the downloadable content

Q: Rhythm Games make me say "Uncle"... Any must-have titles for 2008, or ones that you have played already this year that you think will take the title of "game of the year" for you?

A: Game of the Year is hard to call, but there are a lot of games that I am REALLY looking forward to. GTA IV looks great; Gears of War 2 should be amazing; Soul Calibur is my favorite fighting franchise; tons of incredible Xbox Live Arcade games to look forward to; and anything that my girlfriend is excited about playing (or watching) with me, like Ghostbusters and Aliens. Mostly, I'm just excited about what a huge selection of titles will be out by the end of the year. It should be another terrific year for the 360!

Q: HTTK Badge? 2 wins in 6 Challenges? NICE! When you aren't in a challenge, do you play for points... or fun?

A: I won the first two challenges I was in, as I was really in to the idea of winning free stuff for playing games. It turned out to be a little more difficult than I expected, so it was basically my introduction to the whole concept of playing for points. I like the achievement system, and would always pay attention to what achievements were available and try to shoot for them, but the challenges really took it to a new level. It was a lot of fun in its own way, as getting as many points as possible is kind of like a meta-game itself. However, since then, I've decided to just play for fun. I still can't help but go out of my way for the achievements, though! They're addictive!

Q: I can hear that... What is Achievement you are most proud of?

A: That is a really tough one! So many are based on being persistent or just playing a game a whole lot, so I guess the achievements I'm most proud of are some skill-based achievements found in some Arcade titles. If I had to choose, I guess I'd say the hardest game I've completed would be Jetpac Refueled, so I suppose I'll go with "You can stop now!" for beating the game.

Q: Good call! Is there a feature you would like to see in the next Xbox 360 System Update?

A: I think they knocked out my most-wanted last time with divx support. But next time, I'd really like to see them let you see your friend's friends list, so that the Friends of 360v project would work the way I intended, and would be able to grow more. That, or full-fledged clan support, which could basically accomplish the same thing.

Q: Is there anything else that you would like to add, or that you would like the community to know about you?

A: I love this site! This is honestly my favorite website. I'd like the community to know that I'd like to play more games with you guys. Unfortunately, the hours I game in don't always overlap with most of the community, but I'd love to play some upcoming games with more of you, or hop on Rock Band with a couple of you guys. You're an awesome group of gamers and I'll see you on LIVE!

Thanx so much for your time, Bill. Without community Members like you the site wouldn't be the same!

New comment style, microblog tab, Fav list delete

I found myself with some time on Friday so I cranked out a few small things, and worked on a larger thing that I didn't get done.

  1. Delete all button added to FAVs List.
If you browse the site, there is a little link that appears on the nav bar called "Favs". This link is dynamically created, tracking the blogs that you go to the most. This is so that people who do not register have a way to organize the blogs that they visit without having to do anything. The list can get big and the browser cookie that runs it fairly large, so a "Delete All" button was added to allow you to manage it better.
  2. Microblog tab added to blog page
All of the microblog entries that you create can now be found on a separate tab on your blog page.... and a separate RSS feed has been created for those as well.
  3. New blog comment style
We were getting some feedback that the comments were really hard to read on the blog page, so I restyled them to be a little more clear about who is saying what. This style also applies to the comment tab on the blog page.

I am also working on a feature to give you more reasons to go to the game pages on the site. I got the first part done, and need to complete the second part some time this week.... so look for that as well.

GTA IV appears on 360voice for the first time

I was peaking around the game stats and noticed that Grand Theft Auto IV has been played by someone with a 360voice account for the first time. Who is that lucky gamer?

Powderblue Kes' Xbox - Apr 9 2008
Powderblue Kes hit the switch and fired me up yesterday... his total gamer score is 50,659.He rallied GTA IV, and did it while marvelling at the framerates and stellar particle effects.

Comments aren't enabled or anything on their blog... and I would refrain from bombarding them with live messages... but it is cool to see that the game is close!

Monday Smashed Bugs and Suprise Goodies

Well it is not code night but I put some time into a few bug fixes and a couple small features that were requested recently and I had time to work on.  It is looking as though Fatty Chubs, and ChangeAgent are going to be a bit busy during our normally scheduled code night, so I figured why not give you something a bit early just in case we do in fact delay code night by a few days.

First those pesky bugs, some of which you might not have even noticed!

- On the first day of a challenge (before scores have been gained) the colored rollover effect would cause a javascript error - this was fixed once before but it made its way back onto the page and should be all fixed up now!

- There was an area on the site where when modifying your watchlist it would go to the old form, which would essentially replace your existing watchlist with the old 20 limited gamertags - Wink was the (un)lucky member to find and report this bug to us, thanks!

- Also on your watchlist management screen your gamertag shows so you can compare yourself with others, but it kind of blended in, it was supposed to be colorized differently so you could easily see that it was your gamertag - this has been updated.

Now that those pesky bugs have been squished with a size 15 boot (not mine, sadly i have rather small feet), onto some new features for those of you dying for a new toy on the site.

Blog comments now allow links, and smiles!  That is right folks, if you want to put a smiley face, or a link you want to share in your comments, you can do so.  If you are a regular on the forums, you should be able to start using this functionality right away, because it works identical to the form, and for those of you that are not regulars of the forum - what are you waiting for, you have to have a full membership to leave blog comments anyway, why not come on over and join the fun.

Just a quick refresher though, links that start with http:// or www. will automatically link for you, but you also have the ability to use bbcode

ex: [url="http://www.360voice.com/tag/squidpunch"]visit my blog make me #1![/url]

Smiles can be added by also using bbcode

Enjoy Everyone!

Working with data feeds (our API)

Jerry Lees published a great article at the IT Knowledge Exchange about using the 360voice API and I just wanted to call it out. It is fun when you read about people really understanding what we are trying to do by publishing an API. If you are technically inclined, feel free to dig deeper by reading more:

...I remembered a great community site, that I’ve been a member of for a little over a year or so, called 360voice. Basically, those guys have a truly awesome idea over there… I play games with my Xbox 360 and it blogs about the times we have—and I don’t have to do any work on my own.  If you have a 360 and don’t have an account setup, go over and check it out, tell ‘em Jlees sent you. Heck, while you are at it watch my blog there and drop me a note.

At any rate, one of my challenges was to get everyone the same XML file, while not creating it myself because I wanted the script to be useful under certain circumstances. 360voice came through with their API Documentation! Think about it… now your scripting life has insite into your gaming life (and other’s as well) you could write a script to compare your achievements to your buddies, show the games you haven’t completed, and all sorts of ither stuff. Why?? Because you can!

Remember, if you do something cool with our API, email us or post in the community showcase!

Linky linky time!

Here it is... people who are taking their sweet-time and writing about us. Bless their hearts!

Breakingwindows.com
"My 360 officially went through an Emo stage earlier in the week, and how now turned into pure, unadulterated hatred."

Andrew's Blog
"I recalled a post by Richard Costall - What's your Xbox 360 Saying? whereby there is a service offered called 360Voice and this enables your Xbox 360 to write it's own blog - so you get to hear what your Xbox is thinking.  I thought it would be quite funny to see what my Xbox 360 would say about my gaming activity, especially as I am not a very heavy gamer."

NowGal's Corner
"I don’t do anything but play on the Xbox, and then check the blog and snicker a bit."

411Mania.com
"Unfortunately the system isn't perfect, and there are still some pretty widely known - or at least suspected - cheaters who've managed to stick around. Could that guy be any more blatant? Check out his 360voice page, where he's gaining score without playing games."

Xbox Cheater watch
"Thanks to the work of 360voice.com, we have yet another tool at our disposal to investigate alleged cheaters."

Worldwide Gamers Blog
"Why not give your Xbox 360 a voice? surely you would like to know. At 360Voice you will be able to. That what ive been doing since i have had mine."

Cougar's Corner
"It almost sounds like a MySpace type account for your Xbox 360. It’s free to sign up so I gave it a shot."

Jasarien.com
"I’ve also gone and gotten myself one of those 360Voice blogs, so effectively my 360 now has its own blog, which is interesting."

ChapsNet
"Check out my Xbox's Blog ... to hear him whining about how neglected he is."

Thanks everyone! And sorry again to all of you who had your mentions deleted... I am sure if you mention us again... I will see it! :)

March Game Stats

Call me a geek, but I find game statistics for 360voice fascinating.  So I thought I would share a wrap up of the March game stats.  First, starting with the most played games. Ranked by total gamers for the entire month.

Top Games for March
(name - total gamers)

  1. Call of Duty 4 - 337,712
  2. Halo 3 - 219,884
  3. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - 126,381
  4. Rock Band - 110,531
  5. Guitar Hero III - 91,554
  6. Gears of War - 64,714
  7. Army of Two - 56,235
  8. Lost Odyssey - 45,489
  9. Mass Effect - 39,158
  10. Bully Scholarship Ed. - 35,171
  11. Forza Motorsport 2 - 32,162
  12. Burnout Paradise - 29,525
  13. FIFA 08 - 26,492
  14. The Orange Box - 26,356
  15. Rainbow Six Vegas - 26,095
  16. Frontlines:Fuel of War - 23,641
  17. NBA 2K8 - 21,707
  18. Condemned 2: Bloodshot - 21,403
  19. N+ - 21,295
  20. Assassins Creed - 21,070

A few facts that I like from this list...

  1. Call of Duty 4 although still number 1, lost about 1000 players per day since February, or about a 15% drop in players, where as Halo 3 has no drop in average players per day, since February.
  2. The oldest game is Gears of War (17 months old), with Rainbow Six Vegas (16 months old) not far behind, followed by Forza 2 (10 months old) and Halo 3 (6 months old).
  3. The list contains a game and it's sequel, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2.
  4. FPS was by far the most played genre, followed by Music, then RPG.
  5. N+ an arcade game, just made the list, which is very rare.

Speaking of Arcade games here is the top 5 arcade games for the month

  1. N+ - 21,295
  2. Brain Challenge - 13,866
  3. UNO - 13,045
  4. Geometry Wars Evolved - 10,842
  5. Texas Hold'em - 8,709

Finally not to focus on the negative, but the least popular games of the month were Screwjumper! for arcade, and BOMBERMAN Act:Zero for US Retail titles.

Well that was a lot of fun (at least for me) if you have any feedback, or want to geek out of over stats, here might be a good place to do it

(if you have a comment about these stats, click the title of this post to leave a comment)

Game Name Changes

Not a code night, but I did manage to get some code written today.  In the past we haven't been able to respond quickly when games have changed names.  For example Samurai Warriors 2, recently had a name change to Samurai Warriors 2 XL.  So for some people it was displaying twice in their game list as two different games, even though it was the same title.  This caused all sorts of strangeness with stats and badges.

Today I wrote a script to push these through quicker, it's still pretty intensive, but we should be able to respond in a few days, versus weeks or months.  We also went through and ran this for Samurai Warriors 2 XL and Blue Dragon.  Everything looks good, so if you played the Japanese Blue Dragon or SW2 early, your profiles should be updated.

Let us know if you see anything weird, or there are other title changes now or in the future we need to update.

Update: Gary Leeds pointed out a name change for A-Train HX as well, that has also been fixed.

I have gone into hiding...

Happy April Fools everyone! This is that joyous day of the year where you cannot trust anything that you read on any site. I personally really hate today... I am a very optimistic and excitable person and therefore gullible when it comes to this sort of stuff... so I prefer to just go into hiding and come out when all the craziness has passed.

We have nothing crazy to report for April Fools... you will have to find your insanity elsewhere!

This month saw a slight tweak in how we track popularity... we changed the tracker to include any traffic to the individual blog entry view pages... not just the main blog page. So I think this lead to quite a shake up in the board this month. Still a very familiar set of names, but many different positions!
